Biddio is built to help buyers and sellers connect — but payments and meetups are arranged directly between users (unless a listing states otherwise). Use the tips below to stay safe and avoid scams.

Golden rules (read this first)

1) Don’t pay in advance

If you pay before you inspect or receive the item, you take on the risk. Scammers often push for urgent upfront payment.

2) Inspect before you pay (where possible)

For local deals, inspect the item in person. For shipped items, use tracking and keep proof of purchase.

3) Keep proof of everything

Save messages, receipts, screenshots, and tracking details. Clear records help resolve disputes and help us investigate scams.

Safe meetups (recommended)

  • Meet in a public place (shopping centre, café, police station “safe exchange” areas where available)
  • Go with a friend or tell someone where you’re going
  • Avoid meeting late at night or in isolated locations
  • Trust your gut — if anything feels off, walk away

Payment safety

Because buyers and sellers arrange payment directly, choose methods carefully:

  • Use payment methods you understand and trust
  • Be cautious of requests for unusual methods (gift cards, crypto, third-party “courier insurance”, etc.)
  • Never send extra money for “release fees”, “refundable deposits”, or “courier upgrades” unless you’re 100% sure it’s legitimate
  • If paying a deposit, keep it small and get written confirmation in messages

Common scam red flags

Be extra careful if the seller/buyer:

  • pressures you with urgency (“first to pay gets it”, “need it today”)
  • refuses inspection or avoids calls
  • won’t answer basic questions or provides inconsistent details
  • offers a price that feels too good to be true
  • asks to move the conversation off-platform immediately
  • sends links that look suspicious or asks you to “verify” by entering card/login details elsewhere
  • claims a courier will collect the item but asks you to pay a “fee” first

Job safety (important)

Biddio may include job listings. You should never have to pay money to apply for a job. Be cautious if an employer or recruiter:

  • asks for an “application fee”, “training fee”, “admin fee”, or “background check fee” paid to them or a third party
  • asks you to buy equipment, gift cards, crypto, or send money to “secure the position”
  • promises unusually high pay for minimal work or pushes urgency
  • insists you move the conversation off-platform immediately
  • asks for sensitive info too early (passport, bank logins, myGov credentials, or one-time passcodes)

Protect yourself

  • Keep communication on-platform as long as possible
  • Verify the company independently (official website, phone number, ABN/ACN where relevant)
  • Never share one-time passcodes or login credentials
  • If you’re unsure, walk away and report it

Report job scams

Email support@biddio.com.au with subject: JOB SCAM – URGENT and include the listing URL, messages, and any payment request details.

Shipping safety (buyers)

If shipping is involved:

  • Ask for clear photos, proof of ownership, and a video if needed
  • Confirm total price including shipping before paying
  • Use tracked shipping and keep the tracking number
  • For high-value items, consider insured shipping and require signature on delivery

Safety for sellers

  • Be cautious of buyers who overpay and ask for a refund difference
  • Avoid “courier pick-up” scams where a fake courier message asks for payment
  • Confirm payment has actually cleared before handing over items
  • For bank transfers, verify funds are received (not just “pending screenshots”)

Reporting scams or unsafe behaviour

If you suspect a scam or feel unsafe, email support@biddio.com.au with subject:
SCAM / SAFETY – URGENT

Include:

  • listing URL(s)
  • usernames involved
  • screenshots of messages
  • any phone numbers/emails/bank details shared
  • what was paid/sent (if anything) and when

We may restrict accounts, remove listings, and assist with investigation — but please note that outcomes can’t be guaranteed where payments occur directly between users.

Important disclaimer

Biddio helps users connect but does not hold buyer funds for sellers and is not responsible for losses from direct payments made between users. Always inspect items and use safe payment and meetup practices.
